Picture a typical Friday night with your husband or wife as a BYU-Idaho student. In most cases, staying in, watching a movie, and enjoying time alone is the preferred approach. However, just because you’re married on a widely single campus, doesn’t mean there aren’t a number of activities available to keep date nights innovative and fun. Brigham Young University-Idaho has a wide range of activities available for date nights. These include:

·     Outdoor activities such as camping, kayaking, snowboarding, hiking, and rock climbing

·      Service projects which include humanitarian and community projects

·      Talent activities that you can participate in or go and watch

·      Sporting events, which provide a great opportunity to watch live football, soccer, basketball, baseball, volleyball, wrestling, or hockey.

·     Social activities, which include formal and semi-formal dances, as well as weekly swing or country dances available every Wednesday night.

The university also provides a number of student performances through singing, instrumentals, theatre, and dance. In addition to these concerts, there are well-known musicians throughout the nation who are brought to perform. Some of these people include, The Great Kaplan, Rockappella, Colin Ray, The King Singers, and The Ten Tenors. BYU-Idaho also has a facility for low-cost bowling and roller skating, a swimming pool, exercise and basketball gyms, rooms specifically designed for racquet ball and many fitness night classes. Because this school puts a large emphasis on the importance of family, the University staff strives to accommodate for married students. If one spouse is not in school, but the other one is, the University allots the spouse an I-card so they can also use the facilities and participate in any of the activities at the student rate. This is a beneficial perk since most of the regular price tickets cost at least twice as much as a student price.

Along with the many activities provided at BYU-Idaho are the activities provided by the city of Rexburg and the surrounding areas. Rexburg has five city parks, 3 of which are very large and are frequently used for Frisbee golf, or picnics throughout the summer months. Since Rexburg is a windy city, a date such as flying kites is also a popular choice. For the winter months, The Rex is a large facility that provides movies, bowling, pool tables, pizza, arcades and a specific room for children with blow up castles and fancy slides.

West of Rexburg next to St. Anthony is the famous sand dunes which provide a place for bonfires, sledding, and ATV Racing.

Dining out in Rexburg does provide a few feature restaurants. Craigo’s an original pizza place, Big Jud’s a burger joint famous for its 1 pound burger, and Teton Thai, an authentic Thailand cuisine, are all top date night choices.

In addition to all these activities, because there are a large majority of married couples attending BYU-Idaho, getting together with friends for card-playing, games, or dinners is a great way to build relationships and stay active.

The benefits for all these date-night activities are similar in that they are cheap and easily accessible, often within walking distance. So, the next time you are sitting around thinking of something to do with your spouse for a Friday night date, don’t get stuck in the same old routine. All you need is a couple of dollars, a little of bit of planning, and two pairs of walking shoes, and date nights, as a student at BYU-Idaho, can become long-lasting memories you will cherish for years to come.
